The joby gorillapod was ideal for this situation, that I could hike in with a lightweight tripod and set it up where I needed it.

I wasn’t really planning on shooting this, but once I got up there and saw the logging operation with the water I had to shoot it. I just wish I had more time to spend up there to get some more footage.

Maybe some time soon, if I get back in climbing shape, I can climb up the front instead of hike up the back. Here’s a really old climbing video I made.

I also tried to get the miniature, tilt-shift look in post with the help of Magic Bullet Looks.

I recommend watching it in HD so you can see all the little detail. I didn’t even notice there were men walking around the logs until I put the photos into a timelapse.

My dog enjoyed the view while I tended to the camera.

VFS is a great school so far. Each one of my instructors has worked on major films and all my classmates are talented and friendly. I have 30-36 hours of instruction per week not including assignments. It is a very intense program that lives up to it’s motto: Results Matter.

If I make anything cool I may post it here, but for now, it’s back to work . . .

Inspirational

1. A photographer was fed up with seeing lower quality images of the volcano and so took it upon himself to go get some good images of the eruption in Iceland. That’s the kind of personal project I admire. This guy wasn’t getting paid to do this, he just wanted to do it for himself.

Film/Animation

1. A cool little animation using motion matching software boujou to track in the old Mario Brothers Game into a real time scene.

2. Great little animation that transitions between different movies, see if you notice which ones they reference.

She has a great eye for design and I am lucky to be her son.

A month or two ago, after a Treetopper’s board meeting and a quick sled run at Henson’s, I stopped in Chattanooga to take some timelapse photos while the sun was setting. The park scene is like condensed people watching, I like seeing different things each time I watch it.

The clouds and the night sky were recently shot in my front yard (thanks Eric W. for calling me to tell me about the cool clouds), and the parks in Chattanooga are Coolidge and Renaissance Park (where the hill is). That hill is pretty cool. Kids, and adults, go there and somehow cardboard manifests itself and people use it to sled down the hill – very fun to go see and try out for yourself.

When I went with a couple people we lined up a row of cardboard from the top to the bottom of the hill and slid down that instead of trying to use the cardboard as a sled, we used it as a slip n slide, without the water.

I hope to do more of these in the future.
